Taiwan Healthcare for Kids: Clinics, Hospitals & Specialists
At MacKay Memorial Hospital a child with no Taiwan NHI card pays NT$180 registration plus a NT$900 consultation fee for a daytime clinic visit, and NT$300 plus NT$3,000 in the emergency room. Here are the Taipei clinics, hospital pediatrics departments with English-speaking staff, and the specialists we send families to.
If you are in Taipei with children, this is the short list our New Dawn Health team gives families — where to go for a routine illness, which hospitals have pediatric departments and English-speaking staff, and what a visit costs when your child has no Taiwan health insurance card.
Where do you take a child for a minor illness in Taipei?
A neighbourhood clinic, not a hospital. Clinics take walk-ins, the queue is short, and the doctor dispenses medicine at the same counter you registered at.
Family medicine and ENT:
- 青年診所 — Wanhua District
- Dianthus Minquan — Dr. Lawrence Huang — Neihu District
- 台北欣安耳鼻喷科診所 — Beitou District
Which Taipei hospitals have pediatric departments and English-speaking staff?
Four we send families to. Their pediatrics departments handle the same routine illnesses a clinic does, with more paperwork: separate counters to register, collect medicine and pay.
- MacKay Memorial Hospital (location) — runs a separate Children’s Hospital with its own payment window
- Taiwan Adventist Hospital (location)
- Taipei Veterans General Hospital (location)
- National Taiwan University Children’s Hospital (location)
Taiwan Adventist Hospital opened its International Healthcare Center in 2008 to handle patients and families from abroad. Its pediatrics department covers pediatric allergy, rheumatology and immunology, pediatric neurology and pediatric critical care, and refers to National Taiwan University Hospital, MacKay Memorial Hospital and Taipei Veterans General Hospital.
What does a child’s hospital visit cost without an NHI card?
MacKay Memorial Hospital publishes its fee schedule, last updated 28 August 2026. A child without a National Health Insurance card pays the same registration fee as an insured child, plus a consultation fee insured patients never see.
| Item | With an NHI card | Without an NHI card |
|---|---|---|
| Registration, day clinic | NT$180 | NT$180 |
| Registration, emergency room | NT$300 | NT$300 |
| Consultation fee, general section | Covered by NHI | NT$900 outpatient, NT$3,000 emergency |
| Basic partial charge, outpatient | NT$420 (NT$170 with a referral); no charge for children under 3 | Not charged |
| Basic partial charge, emergency | NT$750 | Not charged |
| Medicines | NT$10–300 | Hospital fee schedule |
An evening, Saturday or public-holiday clinic registration is NT$200 instead of NT$180. Tests, imaging and anything insurance does not cover are billed on top.
Can a visiting child use National Health Insurance or get vaccinated here?
Not the insurance. A child arriving as a visitor has no NHI card and is billed at the non-NHI column above — at MacKay, the NT$900 consultation fee on a daytime clinic visit. Children who are insured and under three years old pay no outpatient basic partial charge at all.
Vaccination is Taiwan CDC’s brief. Its vaccine-preventable disease programme covers 17 diseases, among them measles, pertussis, poliomyelitis, Japanese encephalitis, invasive Haemophilus influenzae type b and invasive pneumococcal disease. Bring your child’s home immunisation record to any pediatrics appointment.
Where do you go with a child in an emergency?
A hospital emergency room, not a clinic — clinics close in the evening and cannot admit. At MacKay, emergency registration is NT$300; without an NHI card, add the NT$3,000 emergency consultation fee and a NT$160 pharmaceutical service fee. With a card, the emergency basic partial charge is NT$750 instead. Taiwan Adventist Hospital lists Emergency Medicine among its departments, and its International Healthcare Center covers foreign patients.
What specialist care can you book for a child?
- Kid dentistry — checkups and cleaning at 拆山菱英牙醫診所 and 樂晨牙醫診所, both Da’an District
- Therapy — KJ Clinic (location) offers children physical, occupational and speech therapy
- Eyes — Taipei Eye Clinic for routine care; the pediatric ophthalmology department at NTU for children who need surgery or further evaluation
- Allergy panels — a hospital’s immunology and allergy pediatric department runs these as a blood test
New Dawn Health books allergen blood panels a la carte: the 110-item Acute Allergen Test at $179 and the 224-item Acute and Chronic Allergen Test at $419 (see all packages). Ask us about age limits when you book.
