Think of a weekend in Taipei and you might picture crowded night markets and tourist buses. But for those in the know, autumn in this city is a different story. The air is crisp, the sun is a little softer, and the city is finally a bit cooler.

This guide is for the traveler who wants to live like a local. We’ll skip the long lines and famous landmarks for a taste of authentic Taipei life, and yes, we’ll even fit in a smart, proactive health investment that makes your trip feel even more worthwhile.

Taipei Travel Essentials for Fall

  • Getting Here: Found a deal on those flights to Taiwan? Fall is an ideal time to visit, as the summer humidity gives way to comfortable weather.

  • Time Zone: Wondering what time is it in Taiwan? Plan your flight to land in the evening so you can grab a late dinner (Uber Eats is readily available and they are extra fast in Taipei!) and sleep through the first few hours of the time change.

  • Autumn Weather: The Taiwan weather in autumn is perfect for walking and exploring. You can expect mild temperatures, typically ranging from 22°C to 28°C (72°F to 82°F), with less rain than in the summer. It’s perfect for spending your days outdoors.

  • Currency: The local currency is the New Taiwan Dollar (NTD). The Taiwan dollar to USD exchange rate makes this a very budget-friendly destination, especially if you're eating and shopping like a local.

Local Taipei Itinerary: Hidden Alleys & Flavors

Dadaocheng at Night

Forget the tourist buses and massive crowds. Today, we're exploring the more local neighborhoods of Taipei, Taiwan.

Morning: A Stroll Through Dadaocheng

Instead of the usual monuments, start your morning in the historic Dadaocheng area. This centuries-old district is a photographer’s paradise, with beautifully preserved architecture and a blend of traditional shops and trendy cafes. Explore Dihua Street, where you can browse shops selling everything from dried mushrooms to traditional Chinese medicine.

Afternoon: A Local's Hike

Instead of the famous (and crowded) Elephant Mountain, take the MRT to the Jinmianshan trail in Neihu District. This is a local favorite, offering a bit of a scramble over huge rock formations and rewarding you with a stunning, unique view of the city. You'll feel like you've discovered a secret spot.

Evening: The Nanjichang Night Market

Skip the tourist-heavy Shilin Night Market. Tonight, you're heading to Nanjichang. This is where locals go for authentic, unpretentious, and seriously delicious street food. Grab a "stinky tofu" or a classic chicken-rice ball and watch Taipei life unfold around you.

Morning: Proactive Health Screening with New Dawn Health

Dedicate your morning by making a smart investment in your well-being. Taiwan's healthcare system is world-class, and a health screening is a great way to take advantage of its efficiency and affordability. New Dawn Health offers a private, streamlined service that makes getting a comprehensive check-up feel less like a chore and more like a high-end experience. You won’t have to worry about the Taiwan language barrier, as our team handles all logistics and communication with top-tier hospitals and clinics and your experience is fully in English, along with your medical report. It's a new kind of travel souvenir - peace of mind. (And yes, several of our partner hospitals and clinics are open on the weekends!)

Afternoon: Your Wellness & Beauty "Glow-Up"

Option 1: Get a Beauty Treatment

Thinking about getting a beauty treatment done and haven’t had time to? Get a beauty treatment from a reputable dermatologist that can be done in 1-2 hours, all in English and at a fraction of the cost you'd pay in the US.

Option 2: Rejuvenate with a Hair & Scalp Spa

Indulge in a relaxing hair and scalp spa that begins with a professional scalp analysis. It's located just minutes from one of our health screening providers, making it the perfect follow-up to your health check.

Early Evening: Huashan 1914 Creative Park

This former winery has been transformed into a vibrant cultural hub. Instead of a museum, wander through converted warehouses that now house unique art exhibits, independent film showings, and quirky design shops. It's a perfect place to enjoy a nice meal and get a feel for Taipei’s contemporary art scene.
